It was signed at the Trianon Palace in Versailles, France. • The Austrian Hungarian monarchy delayed signing the treaty with the allied powers excluding U.S.A and Russia(which did not sign). • Hungary was deprived of access to the sea and of some of its most valuable natural resources • They were reduced to an army size of 35,000

Territories • Romania received Transylvania and Banat, including Timisoara. • Czechoslovakia was approved in possession of Slovakia and Ruthenia. • Yugoslavia (then the Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes) obtained Croatia, Slavonia, and the western section of the Banat. • Austria was awarded the Burgenland, • But the city of Sopron and its vicinity were returned to Hungary after a plebiscite in 1921 • Picture to the right is Count Albert Apponyi a diplomat from hungry

Downfall For Hungary • The Hungarian delegation signed the treaty under protest. • Hungarian agitation for revision began immediately and was supported by 3 million Magyars transferred to Romania, Yugoslavia, and Czechoslovakia. • Hungary had to make reparations payments to Allied nations to compensate for war damages but not as much as Germanys debt due to the war damages
