  2. Background Information • A simple machine is a simple mechanism (machine) that provide mechanical advantage. • In short, it makes doing something hard much easier! • We use simple machines everyday!

  3. Background Information • There are Six Simple Machines • Lever • Pulley • Wheel & Axle • Screw • Wedge • Inclined Plane

  4. Background Information • Compound Machines is two or more Simple Machines put together. • The end result of a Compound Machine makes the work easier than each of the Simple Machines!

  5. Research • In your Word Document give a real life example of each of the Six Simple Machines that you use everyday! • Be sure to describe how you use them and include a picture for each one!

  6. Research • Can you think of Compound Machines that you use? • In your Word Document name at least 3 and include pictures and descriptions of how and where you might use them! • Also, describe which simple machines are incorporated in these Compound Machines

  7. About K’Nex • K’Nex in the STEM Lab are organized by color. • Please help keep it this way! • The Blue Box is where all of the building cards are stored. • This is located at your desk near the computer. • These are stored by the color of the border.

  8. About K’Nex • On each of the building cards you will find: • Name of the Project • Parts List • Instructions on how to build it • Middle pages • More information about the Simple Machine used in the project • Last page

  9. About K’Nex • On the wire rack, find the tub that says “K’Nex Tub” • Use this tub to gather all of your pieces and to store your project in for the week. • Do NOT take your project apart!

  10. Do It! • After your project is completed • Summarize, in your own words, the information on the back page of your builder card. • Complete #1 in the Try It Out! section. • Be sure to record and answer these questions in your Word Document!

  11. Do It! • From the Blue Box find a card that uses Simple Machines. • Build the Simple Machine • Be sure to include pictures (with descriptions) of your work. • Don’t forget to do the work on the BACK of the card.

  12. Do It! • Go back and repeat Slides 10 & 11 with a different Simple Machine. • See how many you can make! • Or you may go to EdHeads and learn more about Simple & Compound Machines • Be sure to take Print Screens of your progress!
