  2. Personal Information • Nicolaus was born on February 19,1473 in Poland • When Nicolaus was ten his father died • He was born into a family of merchants and municipal officials • He had four children • The entire family belonged to the third order of St. Dominic • His life ended of May 24,1543

  3. Astronomy • Nicolaus Copernicus started the scientific revolution by writing the book called De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium. • This book was mostly about helicentric cosmology. Greek (ήλιος Helios = sun and κέντρον kentron = center). Greek: κοσμολογία (cosmologia, κόσμος (cosmos) order + λογος (logos) word, reason, plan) is study of the Universe in its totality, and by extension, humanity's place in it.

  4. Changing our Understanding • Nicolaus Proved that Earth wasn’t in the center of the universe • This showed astronomers why other planets changed their sides of brightness • Nicolaus showed other astronomers that the stars were fixed and the planets moved
