Wood Hockey Sticks • First Real Hockey Stick • Not much change from Moffat stick • Longer and more sturdy • No curved blade • Heavy wood • First Curved Stick (1950) • Curved blade • Easier to pass/shoot puck • Easier to elevate puck • Lighter wood (laminated plywood) • Introduce flex • Christian Brothers Hockey

  4. Aluminum Hockey Sticks • First Metal Made Stick (1990) • Aluminum shaft • Wood blade • Ousted wooden made sticks • More sturdy (don’t break) • No flex (Less Power) • Didn’t last long

  5. Composite Hockey Sticks • First Light Weight Stick (2000) • Revolutionary • Very light weight • High flex (Power, Speed) • “Whip Effect” • Faster shots and Passes • One side-effect • Break easily

  6. Significance to Me • Had Every Stick but Moffat • Symbol For Hockey • Family Sport • Dad, Uncles played • Brother and Sister play • Family bonding • Teammates become family • High Competition • Not everyone can skate or shoot • Playing since age 4
