  3. JOY FROM FAVORABLE CIRCUMSTANCES

  4. • finding hidden treasure (Matthew 13:44),

  5. • birth of a baby (John 16:21)

  6. • both believers and unbelievers can experience this kind of joy

  7. JOY IN THE CHRISTIAN LIFE

  8. • birth of John the Baptist (Luke 1:14),

  9. • miracles (Matthew 2:10)(reappearance of the star to the Magi),

  10. • hearing good news (Matthew 28:8)(angel tells women at the tomb Jesus is alive),

  11. • seeing Jesus alive (Luke 24:41),

  12. • hearing and receiving the Word of the Kingdom—includes the Gospel(Matthew 13:20 = Mark 4:16 = Luke 8:13),

  13. • exercising authorityover demons (Luke 10:17),

  14. • successful exorcisms and healings (Acts 8:8),

  29. DEGREES OF JOY

  40. PRINCIPLES

  41. • joy co-exists with other emotions such as fear("with fear and great joy," Matthew 28:8)

  43. • you may be continually filled with joy (Acts 13:52)— imperfect tense of pleroo describes a prolonged joy

  44. • joy may be present in times of testing and suffering (2 Corinthians 7:4; 8:2; James 1:2),e.g., the seizure of your property (Hebrews 10:34)

  45. • joy results in praising God (Luke 24:52–53)
