Short film ideas By Mark Hill
God & Satan • A young man wants to see and act of god as much as he wants to see an act of satan. One day while walking to work he witnesses an act of god, though rather pathetic, it was still a miracle, he see’s a man change the flavour of crisp for a friend, after which he wakes up. Again while walking to work he witnesses and act but this time it was the work of satan, a couple arguing then the man makes a hand gesture and the girl collapses. Again he wakes up, weary and continues to leave for work, he reaches a fork in the road and realises that in his dreams, he went either way but can not remember which way lead to the act of god or which way lead to the act of satan.
Characters and theme • The main protagonist will be called George, there will be 4 other characters but they will remain nameless. • The theme will be choices because George has to decide if he will go right or if he will go left.
Visual style • The lighting in the film will be bright. • This will help express that the film is light hearted because while it has a message, it is not serious. • Some shots will be long shots to express that he doesn’treally know whatheisgoing to do.
Locations and props • Locations • The locations I will need are: • Bedroom or café • A road to split into two • Props • The props that I will need are a bag of crisps and locational props.
Psychosis • A young man is in this flat working on a project for work, he soon realises that he has had no human contact for days. Getting paranoid he starts to think there are entity’s after him, loosing his mind but staying rational, he sets up a webcam outside to keep an eye on his front door. He barricades his door and then hears a knock on the door after calming down, he checks the webcam instantly and there is nobody or nothing there.
Characters and theme • The only character in the short will be Mike, a young man who works from home. • This short’s theme is contact because he has had no contact with anybody then as he looses his mind, thinks he has contact with someone but he doesn’t.
Visual style • The short will be dark a lot of the time to add the feeling that the character is alone and secluded. • Combined with the lighting, there will be lots of close ups so the viewer gets the feeling that he is trapped. • The short will be similar to a spoken memo, having a voice over though out the short so the character can portray how he is feeling.
Location and props • The location will need to be a flat for effect to fully take place. • Props needed for the short will be locational probs (e.g bed, computer, desk, ect)
Trapped • 4 young people venture into an old house, 3 of them play a prank on one of the girls and trap her in a room, at first the room in empty but when she turns around there is a note saying ‘ that’s a nice t-shirt you have on… do you like the room?’. Panicking, she turns around to find a note on the door saying ‘ don’t be scared, but you will never leave this room’ she lets out a terrified scream and her friends open the door, frantically she tells them and they run out of the house, at the end there is a note saying’ I have your scent’.
Characters and theme • There are 4 characters but three remain nameless but one, Hannah, the girl who gets trapped. • The theme will be contact because it seems that she has made contact with something ‘not of this world’
Visual style • The lighting in this short will be dark because the darkness is commonly linked with paranormal activity. • The camera shots will change to tight close ups when Hannah is trapped in the room too add to the effect of her being trapped and her not knowing if this thing is close or far.
Location and props • The locations will be: • A empty housethe street outside the house. • Props • The props needed for the short will be some notes for the messages.
