  1. My Short Film Proposal

  2. Plot Description BACKGROUND The protagonist of my film will be a girl of around 18 who has been hired by a criminal organisation to do their dirty work. The antagonist of the film will be the criminal mastermind behind everything, the man who she has to report back to after completing her missions. STORYLINEMy film begins with the antagonist sitting in a dark room, seemingly waiting for something to happen. When the sound of sirens begin, it cuts to black. The next scene is of the protagonist running away from the police. She sprints across fields, through alleyways and around corners to evade them - clearly she knows what she is doing. She escapes into a building and by the time she emerges it’s become dark. She walks down the street and into an office building, walking down the corridors and taking the lift to the top floor. She then enters the room where the mastermind is waiting for her. The conversation exchange is tense, as he is clearly not happy with her for getting caught. He intimidates her, but remains calm and composed making him all the more threatening. When he is finished with her, she sets out on her mission to redeem herself, but he doesn’t give second chances. We now find out she is an assassin and she carefully and systematically works her way through a list of targets out of delivered envelopes, disposing of them stealthily and professionally. When it comes to the last envelope however, the picture that she pulls out is very recognisable...it’s her. The exchange takes place on top of a motorway bridge, and as the messenger disappears, she turns and looks at the high drop and busy road below her...

  3. Location Preferences ANTAGONISTS OFFICE/HIDEOUTOne option for this location is a formal and ‘posh’ office, complete with modern furniture and glass windows looking out over the ‘city’. This creates the image that this man has worked his way up the ladder and is now the most important person in his organisation. The nature of his work is unknown to those sharing the office block. I was thinking of using Stafford College or the Shire Hall as an option for outside shots, and the shots of glass doors and lifts.Another option for this is a dark and dimly lit ‘basement’, with pipes running up the walls and bricks exposed. This creates the image that the nature of his work is secretive and illegal, and so has to be hidden underground. This could also be created in Stafford College but would need some dressing up. PROTAGONIST SCENES For the scenes where she is running away from the police I was considering using the area around Stafford Castle at the beginning, and then moving on to more urban areas such as the town square. For one scene where she poisons somebody’s coffee I would ideally like to use the outside of Costa Coffee in town for the outside seating area. Also, for the final scene I will use the motorway bridge on Thorneyfields Lane as this is a quiet road, making it easy to film.

  4. Cost Details PROPSThe props I will need to buy will be quite minimal as I will borrow a lot from friends and family. Depending on the location of the antagonists hideout I might need to buy some specific lighting equipment to create the right atmosphere. These can be picked up cheaply. I could even use candles to do this which cost even less money. CAST AND CREWAs thanks for helping me with this project I will buy my cast and crew lunch/drinks instead of paying them. I will set aside £15 for this.

  5. Casting Preferences For my film I will need a female protagonist, a male antagonist, and a few people to act as messengers. I will also ask a friend to help me out behind the camera for the difficult scenes. PROTAGONIST This character needs to be calm and confident. There is very little dialogue in this part as most of the emotions and tasks are portrayed through actions, such as running away from police and pulling someone behind a wall. Options for this character are Abbie Venables and Laura Clark. This person has the most time on camera and so will need to be readily available for long periods of time. ANTAGONISTThis character needs to be intelligent, calm and intimidating. This person has a lot of dialogue and so would be ideal if they had acting experience or enjoyed it, as a lot of emotion has to be portrayed through speech. Options for this character are JoeEccleshall and Mike Evans. I will ask Hollie Heeley to help me behind the camera with technicalities.

  6. Target Audience Description My target audience will be in the socio economic class D and E, as this consists of manual working class people and students. These are the people who are most likely to watch short films on the internet which is where my film will be distributed. They will be fans of thriller and action films and be familiar with social networking, as this is where I put my audience survey and where I will advertise my film when it is completed. The age range for my film will be a 15 due to the mature themes of the story. However, this will depend on how much visual detail I go into. They will be both male and female, as the genre would typically appeal more to men, but the female lead character might appeal also to women.
