  1. Year 9 China Week Preparation in PSHCE

  2. Lesson Objectives; • By the end of the lesson I will be able to; • Describe exactly where we are going. • Explain what the landscape and lifestyle is like there. • Discuss the customs and beliefs of the local people.

  3. Starter Task • Where are we going? • What will we see? • What will we experience? Think, discuss in pairs, share ideas.

  4. This trip will include – • Hiking and carrying all of your own belongings in a rural environment. • Homestay (2 nights) with a Miao family in their home. • Community project work – you will be helping the locals with an important task e.g. cropping, rice farming, building. • Teaching children key skills and playing games (visit to a local school). • Dragon boating and learning traditional crafts. • Complete integration into rural life in China!!

  5. Watch the video ‘BBC Wild China’ focussing on Guizhou. Think about and answer these questions • What do you notice about the landscape? • How are the Miao tribe people resourceful? • What are some Miao beliefs? • How do they interact as a community? Copy these questions into your books and leave space to answer

  6. You will become the teachers! • During our trip you will visit a local school and teach the children some activities which YOU will plan and YOU will deliver. Your focus will either be; • Physical • Academic • Social / Performance Based In groups of no more than 5; Brainstorm your ideas Plan which resources you will need What are you going to do? Who is responsible for what?
