Travel Arrangements Depart: 9.15am Monday, 15th September Please arrive by 8.45am at the latest to allow for loading the bus etc. Meet in the Senior School gym (Also known as the LOWER GYM) Staff will be there from 8.00am Return: 16.30 Thursday, 18th September Travel by coach (seatbelts will be checked!) Students will travel mostly in Tutor Groups Takes up to three hours (with time for a rest stop)

  4. Itinerary Day 1 • Depart Shanghai/Hotel check-in • Visit Lingyin Temple • Water fountain show at West Lake Day 2 • Visit Longjing tea village • Mountain hike in Shililangtang Valley • Cycling through nature reserve in Xixi Wetland Park

  5. Itinerary Day 3 • Early morning activities by West lake • Visit Hangzhou Huotai Museum • Visit Song Dynasty Town theme park Day 4 • Treasure hunt and games in Longmen Ancient Town • Return to Shanghai

  7. Insurance As per the letter that was sent out at the start of term, please ensure that your child has medical insurance. Failure to hand in the relevant documentation will mean your child does not attend China Week.

  8. Accommodation • Culture Plaza Hotel, Hangzhou – 4* • 8 Wen Er Road, Xihu District, Hangzhou • +86 (571) 8882 5888 • Twin (or possibly triple share) – students and Form Tutors will decide on groupings of friends in PSHCE time • Students’ needs will be considered when forming groups and during the trip

  9. Food • All of the food is local food and this is part of the theme for the week so students will be encouraged to try the food • Dietary requirements have been requested and will be passed to the provider and will be catered for • Drinks – students will be given water with every meal

  10. Electronic Items • Mobile phones – can only be used for a limited period of time to phone home. Teachers on each floor will collect and keep in hotel safe at other times. • No laptops, game consoles or other electronic devices allowed –– they will be confiscated • Ipods – Permitted on long bus trips only

  11. Other Information • Lights out at 9.30pm – staff will check on students and monitor the corridors • Students will not be allowed to use hotel telephones for any reason and any damage to the room will be billed • Behaviour – exemplary of course! • (Should a serious incident occur, parents of student/s concerned will be contacted to pick up their child.) All school rules will apply, and as we are representing DCS we expect students to be good ambassadors for the college

  12. What happens … … in cases of illness or homesickness? This is what Form Tutors, the Head of Year and the College Counselor are for. Students have been told to talk to one of us and we will help your child. It’s rarely as bad as it seems at the time. In the event of an emergency, parents will be informed as soon as possible.

  13. Personal medication • Place in a sealed bag – including Paracetamol/Tylenol • Label medication with the correct name in English & include any instructions • Give specific medication to the Form Tutor on the morning of departure

  15. Who will look after money, cameras etc? • The student will – teachers will only be responsible for passports/ID cards and phones • Money –please do not give your child too much. 200RMB is more than enough. All food is provided • Cameras (as with money) are the child’s own responsibility. *Do not rely on the phone/ ipod cameras to take photos – remember, phones will be left in the hotel safe for most of the time

Essential Packing List • Short sleeved shirts, lightweight pants, shorts • Sufficient changes of undergarments and socks • Plastic bag and extra change of clothes for the wetland park visit. • Light waterproof jacket • Rain coat • Sun hat • Good comfortable walking shoes (well worn in) • Backpack for day activities • Personal toiletries such as toothbrush and toothpaste, moisturizer, and lip balm • Wet wipes or hand gel • Sunscreen (30+ SPF) and sun glasses • Insect repellant

  17. Anxious Parents • Please try not to be. It is a very safe trip and we want to instill a sense of confidence and independence in the students. • Tell them it will be fun, interesting and an adventure. They will enjoy it more knowing that you are not worried about them • Please don’t ring or text – they can ring you in the evening
