  2. Average Yearly Household Waste • Australian’s are known to produce 540kg of household waste per person, each year. • The country is generating an estimated 67 million tonnes of waste. • Only 37% of waste is recycled.

Tin Can Planters Upcycle your tin cans and turn them into planters.Materials: • Pom Poms/Decorations • Crop-A-Dile Power Punch • Double-Sided Tape • Recycled Tin Cans • Plants • Soil • Nail/Hammer How-To: • Make drainage holes at the bottom of the cans with a large nail and hammer • Use a hole puncher to create arm holes on both sides of the tin. • Insert a pipe cleaner through the holes and then fill with soil. • Transfer plant into tin can planter. • Apply double-sided tape to the back of the face pieces and allow the child to stick i place.

DIY Bird Houses Reuse milk cartons to create bird planters which your kids can decorate with their favourite paints and colours.Materials: • empty cartons, washed and dried • acrylic paint • paint brush • water • paper towel • nail or screwdriver • string or yarn • scissors • utility knife • bird seed How-To: • Use a utility knife to cut out the sides of the carton. • Paint carton with acrylic paints. • Poke a hole into the top of each carton with a nail or screw driver. • Thread a piece of yarn or string through the carton and knot at the top. • Fill with bird seeds and place outside.

  5. Stained Glass Jars Colour in your old glass jars with sharpies, these can be reused as pencil holders. Materials: • Clean glass jar • Sharpie markers How-To: • Wash jar in soapy hot water. • Dry completely with a towel. • Draw your designs on the jar with sharpies.

  6. DIY Cardboard Playhouse DIY playhouse is the perfect upcycling hack. The kids can decorate it however they want, and it’ll make playtime more entertaining.Materials: • 2 large cardboard boxes • Serrated edge knife • Duct tape • Spray paint • Decorations of choice How-To: • 2 large cardboard boxes. One is for the main frame of the house and the other for an addition to the roof. • Use a box cutter and also a knife with a serrated edge to cut the frame of the playhouse. • Trace rectangles for the door and windows and then cut them out. • Use pieces from the second box to create a roof. • Any excess cardboard can be used to create a door. • Spray paint & decorate with fun stuff of your choice.
