House on Destiny Street • This house is where tensions and realizations arise. • This house allows the characters to find out who they are. • The house also has sentimental purposes because the family visits it every year, and many important events have happened in the house to shape each character and the family as a whole.

  3. Celaya (LaLa) • Celaya is very childish and ignorant. • However, she seems to mature and learn. • Celaya also seems to have a bond and a similarity to the awful grandmother. • Despite her previous childish actions, she learns a few things in the house on destiny street. • Some of these things include the Awful Grandmother’s past and a few family problems.

  4. Soledad (The Awful Grandmother) • Soledad went through the pain and suffering in the house on destiny street, such as the loss of her parents. • She was very submissive to authority. • However, she changed and became rather mean and stubborn.

  5. Zoila • Zoila was rather distant from Celaya. • However, after her stay in the house on destiny street, she changed into a more uncaring mother because of the secret the awful grandmother told her

  6. Inocencio • Inocencio tries to please his wife more after the telling of the secret. • Inocencio is very affected and struggling with the situation. • The house changed him and his relationship with his wife.

  7. Rafael (Rafa) • Rafa was abandoned at the house on destiny street. • While there he learned, he learned Spanish and became a different person. • He became more responsibility. • This situation with the house made him change which is what the house did to most of the people.

  8. The Family • The family seemed rather unified at the beginning of the novel. • However, after the family stayed at the house the family became very split up. • Each person of the family then tries to keep the family more unified, but it does not stay the same at it had in the beginning.
