Rita the RetireeRita a NEA retired member was finalizing her plans to attend the NEA Retired leadership and organizing development conference in Orlando, FL. Rita thought about driving to Orlando because she had just purchased a new Cadillac from the NEA Auto Purchase Program. It was her dream car. She taught for 35 years, put three kids through college and felt that she deserved it! However, after thinking about the 1000 mile drive she decided to fly. She logged-in at www.neamb.com she found the NEA Click & Save Program and began her search for discounted flights. While searching through NEA Click & Save she bought new clothes for the trip, and gifts to send to her two grandkids. Rita remembered to use her NEA Credit Card because she was hoping to earn enough points to take a free trip next year. Rita then remembered that she will need a rental car when she lands as she would like to visit a few friends while she is there and do some sight-seeing away from the Las Vegas Strip. She likes Hertz, logged-in with her Gold Club membership number and reserved a car. A week before Rita was to leave for Orlando, Rita attended her local Retired Chapter meeting. She is the President of her chapter and wanted to say good-bye to her friends who would not be attending the conference and she wanted to remind her members about a few great NEA Member Benefit programs. (A lot of members thought that she just liked to show-off her Cadillac). She passed out the NEA-Retired flier listing all of the NEA Member Benefits along with some freebies that she received from her NEA MB local rep ( one of 14 ). After the meeting, Rita had made two stops. She had to visit her doctor for a quick check-up and swing by her Eye Doctor to pick up her new glasses. Rita wasn’t worried about the doctor’s bill for the check-up because she has Medicare Supplement Insurance through NEA MB. In addition, her glasses are free through the NEA Dental & Vision program.Finally, the day had arrived and Rita was off to the airport. While Rita was on the plane she read The Economist magazine (which she received for free from the NEA Magazine Service). Soon she landed in Orlando, grabbed her bag, and headed to the Hertz counter. Boy, the line was long for rental cars. Luckily, Rita was a Gold Club member and searched for the Hertz Gold Club board. She found her name, walked to the appropriate slot number, and began the short drive to her hotel.
Rita the RetireeOn the flight to Orlando all Rita had was peanuts and drink – she was getting hungry so, Rita decided to get a group of various friends she’d made over the years through her NEA involvement together for dinner. She was looking forward to catching up with some of these people she hadn’t seen since the NEA RA last year. Rita suggested the group go to XYZ restaurant, before leaving home Rita searched NEA Click & Save for the amazing program called restaurant.com. She discovered that XYZ on the list and bought three gift cards for little to nothing. (got to website) Rita and her friends enjoyed a great meal, as they were leaving Rita could hear Jazz music playing nearby. Two years ago Rita would have had a difficult time hearing the music. Not this year-she participated in the NEA Hearing Aid program, saved a bundle on a new hearing aid. As a beautiful Louis Armstrong tune played, Rita began to smile. The next morning Rita, called her daughter to check-in and tell her about her evening. Rita’s daughter had a surprise for her mom and couldn’t wait to tell her the news. Rita’s daughter had fixed up a fourth bedroom and asked Rita if she would consider moving in with her family. Rita felt that this was thoughtful but politely declined. Rita’s daughter was surprised and asked, “Mom, who will take care of you when you get….uh…… “Old,” said Rita. “Yes, old mom”, said her daughter. Rita chuckled and said that she had many years to go before she would be “old” and besides said Rita-I will be ok as I recently purchased Long Term Care Insurance through NEA Member Benefits. After attending a great conference and enjoyable sessions (especially those presented by NEA MB) Rita returned home to discover that the refrigerator was not working and the food had spoiled. Rita didn’t worry, she went straight to her computer. A few minutes later Rita was logged-in to www.neamb.com and was searching through the Whirlpool Discount program.
