  2. Who wrote the letter? Paul When did he write it? Winter of 56 at the conclusion of his third missionary journey

  3. Why did he write it? • He was preparing for a visit to Jerusalem and anticipated that he might be imprisoned • He wanted to preserve his thoughts on God (“theology”) just in case • If he survived, he wanted to prepare for a visit to Rome and perhaps Spain
