  1. ESL THANKSGIVING CELEBRATION 2008 BEGINNER AND INTERMEDIATE LEVEL CLASSES

  2. Introduction Every year the ESL classes work on many writing projects. Their Thanksgiving book is the product of our first quarter of English Language Artsactivities. Some students have been here only a few weeks and some – a little longer. All Beginner and Intermediate level students worked very hard to create their original stories. Most students prepared three or four drafts, using various computer programs and internet resources and most of all-their personal experience-to complete their assignments. The result is a book containing the following chapters: Thanksgiving, My Name , The Most Wonderful Things About Me. The writing of my students is always honest and beautiful. From the ten-year-old to the fifteen-year-old - they all completed with excellence the challenging task of expressing feelings and thoughts in English. I am very proud of them all!

To all Middle School staff administrators, secretaries, counselors, social workers, custodians, security, and of course, our nurse; To Ms. Baker, Ms. Karvelas, Ms. Fiumano, Ms. Femia, Ms.Pesce; to Ms. Hecht who helped with the culinary preparations and to Ms. Wiener who carved the turkeys; to Ms. DeCicco and Mr. Isaacs who were very, very patient with us and provided great technical support for the project; THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS A SPECIAL DAY! FOR MORE THAN HALF OF THE STUDENTS THIS IS THEIR FIRST THANKSGIVING IN THE UNITED STATES! Most of all, I would like to thank all the students and their families for this wonderful feast.   9. My First Day in the U. S. A. My first day in the United States was beautiful because I was going to be in New York with my mom. I had to change my whole world and change my life completely. Nothing is easy here. I have to speak another language, and when I speak in English people do not know what I say. I have to learn English to overcome difficulties in this country.   10. The Most Wonderful Thing About Me I AM SO SMART. I AM GOING TO SCHOOL TO DO MY STUDIES AND TO GET A GOOD JOB ONE DAY. I AM INTELLIGENT BECAUSE I LEARN VERY QUICKLY. I LIKE TO HELP PEOPLE WHO HAVE PROBLENS. I WANT TO BE A POLICE OFFICER. I AM GENEROUS BECAUSE I GIVE TO OTHER PEOPLE WHEN THE PEOPLE NEED SOMETHING AND WHEN I CAN. I AM KIND BECAUSE I AM NOT CONCEITED AND LIKE TO HELP MY FRIENDS. I LIKE TO HELP MY FRIENDS AND EVERYONE BECAUSE WHEN I NEED HELP THE OTHER PERSON HELPS ME. I LIKE TO PLAY SOOCER BECAUSE THE SOCCER IS MY FAVORITE SPORT AND BASKETBAL IS MY OTHER SPORT BECAUSE I LIKE TO DO EXERCISE AND OTHERS EXERCISE.   11. Thanks to my teacher Ms. Brinton for helping me to learn English. She is a very good teacher and she teaches me in 6th grade with all my friends.   12. My Favorite Holiday My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. It is the nicest holiday for me and my family. We enjoy Thanksgiving a lot because we all gather in my house and we have dinner together. I love Thanksgiving a lot because my birthday is coming soon on November 22, and it is very close to Thanksgiving. I know that I will have a great time with all my family. My grandma is coming to visit me from El Salvador because she loves me a lot and I love her a lot. She will bring me a lot of nice presents. I love to be with her because when she comes she brings me jocotes – very special fruit from El Salvador. I love to eat them because they make me think of El Salvador. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
