Science Objectives • Two types of models for substorms • In NENL model whistler modes are expected to develop and accelerate electrons at V>>Va. • In CD models waves (at F~Flhr or nFbe) are expected to disrupt the current. • SCM (together with EFI) will allow a characterization of the waves associated with Breakup • =>provide a critical test for substorm scenarios. • SCM will measure the AC B-field from 1 Hz to 4kHz, with tri-axis antennas. • SCM sensitivity is: 0.8pT/sqHz at 10Hz, and 0.02pT/sqHz at 1kHz (measured). Better than specs.
SCM pre-amplifiers • Left: PA cubes and calibration unit on PCB (EM) • Right: PA box (EM) • Mass (195gr) and power (75mW) below allocation
SCM antennas • 3-Axis structure and magnetic antennas (located at the end of a boom). Mass (586gr) below allocation (600gr).
Summary • Ressources (mass & power) are compatible with allocation. • EM delivered. • FM currently tested in Chambon la Forêt. • Performances meet specs
