  5. Angthong National Marine Park Mo KohAng Thong National Park consists of 42 islands and is a safe haven for many species of mammals, reptiles and birds. The protected park area spans over 102 km² and is located between the mainland and the islands of KohSamui and KohPhangan. It is most famous for TalayNai, also known as the Emerald Lake, whose tranquil waters reflect the sunlight in countless shades of green. Originally is was a giant cavern, until one day the ceiling collapsed, making way for this fantastic saltwater lake. The park is also famous for having inspired the Hollywood movie “The Beach”, which was partially filmed here as well. With its calm water and beautifully mysterious islands, this place invites you to discover its hidden treasures and be inspired by its unique beauty.

The Five Islands Southern Islands of Samui Locally, they are known as the “Four Islands-Five Islands”, as one island is hidden behind another when looking over from the southern shore of KohSamui. They are inhabited only by Sea Gypsies, who have lived on these islands for generations and are now employed to guard the nests of the swift Terns These nests are the principle ingredients for the famed birds nest soup and can be sold for up to $4,000 per kilogram in Hong Kong restaurants. It is no wonder then that agile gatherers search the caves and craggy rocks for these precious nests and that without the official protection, the swift would be in serious danger. KohTan is located just a few hundred meters off the southwestern coast of KohSamui’sTaling Nam fishing village. The small island is known for pristine nature. The island itself is home to only one village, has neither cars nor paved roads and is reachable by local long tail fishing boat, making it a beautifully secluded hideaway. KohMadsumis just east of Koh Tan and directly south of KohSamui’s beautiful LaemSor Pagoda. Its long white sand beaches make it a popular place for day trips among Thai tourists, students in particular, who come there to enjoy picnics, camping on the beach and singing songs around campfires. If you want to join locals on a “tio”, Thai for “day out”, this is the place to go.
