  4. Additional Requirements to an EMS According to EC 761/2001 In addition to ISO 14001 requirements, EMAS emphasises:  • Legal compliance • Continual improvement of environmental performance • External communication • Involvement of employees

Steps for implementation What are the practical steps?   PLAN • develop an environmental policy • carry out an initial environmental review • develop an environmental program  DO  • structure an environmental managementsystem  CHECK • control and monitor environmental performance and management systems  ACT • review an environmental management system, make changes, get certified

  6. Requirements for the Environmental Statement Content • Must show relevant environmental aspects • Understandable for non-experts • Readable • Comparable with previous years • Comments by the organisation on targets which it did not meet

Statement, Audit Report Legal Compliance Check Conformity Check: Ministry of the Env.: Supervision of Verifier Credibility Credibility Enter Company into Register Transparency Public Notice of Registration Handover of Certificate

  8. Process of registration Further processes of registration: After three years: Renewal of registration Suspension: no new env. statement after three years; lack of legal compliance Deletion: no new env. statement after three years; lack of legal compliance Transparency Credibility Performance
