Let us make man in our image Genesis 1:26-27 (Compare v 11 & v 24) • How was mankind special? • Self conscious • Able to control instincts • Able to reason • Understands abstract concepts • Able to communicate via speech • Use tools and make inventions • Create & appreciate music • Aware of God and able to praise Man was made to rule over creation

  5. The New Creation in Christ The new creation is the process by which men and women are “created” to be like the Lord Jesus. It is a process of renewal now but will be fully completed at the Lord’s return when those that belong to Christ are resurrected and given eternal life. It all centres around the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus.

The Firstborn Colossians 1:15-20 • Image = replica not original • Firstborn = implies a beginning • ‘Beginning’ in Hebrew means • 1st in time • 1st in harvest • 1st in importance • ‘All things’ = ‘all things in Christ’ • Colossians 1:23 • Colossians 3:11 Through Jesus ‘all things’ were reconciled

  7. New Creation’s Redemptive Work Colossians 1 • Part tense - already done • Verse 12 • Verse 13 • Verse 14 • Verse 20 • Verse 21 • Verse 22 ... If we continue in the faith and are not moved away

  12. Transformational Process • Process of renewal • In our minds • Colossians 3:9-10 • Ephesians 4:21-24 • Romans 12:1-2 This renewal is a continuing process – it shouldn’t stop

  13. Summary • Man made in God’s image • New creation:- process to become like Christ • Start & finish is Jesus’ redemptive work • But we have a part to play • Its a process of renewal if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away
