Differential Response in Colorado • Differential Response is a Dual Track system which allows a low to moderate risk family to have a “different” response than a higher risk family. • The base difference in the alternate track: • The child does not have to (but can) be interviewed outside of the presence of the person alleged responsible for the abuse or neglect • No finding is made

  3. What are the components of the DR Model in Colorado Are they specific to Differential Response, because my counties are doing this right now…

  4. Call Comes into the Hotline Enhanced Screening: Is this only done in Differential Response?

  5. What if it is a Judge or Magistrate calling?

  6. RED Team? Is there a BLUE Team as well? Review, Evaluate, Direct Is this also only something that happens in DR?

  7. The assessment is going FAR (VS. staying close)? Family Assessment Response (FAR) One track in a Dual Track System

  8. So Now What? • The Assessment begins…with a phone call (and preferably a smile)

This is family driven • We meet where they want to meet • We still interview the children, but may do so in front of caregiver • We give them an option to participate in FAR or to do a High Risk Assessment instead • We assess for safety and risk • If no safety issues are present, families have the option to no longer participate…In comes family engagement round 2

Family Assessment Response Cases where risk is proportionately lower No finding of child maltreatment, no identified PRAN in TRAILS Emphasis on front-loaded services delivered in partnership with the family. Side by Side Comparison High Risk Assessment Cases where risk is proportionately higher, including sexual abuse and serious bodily injury PRAN determination, entry of determination in TRAILS Services delivered, often with court mandate.
