  4. Predicate Nouns • To locate a predicate noun: 1. Locate a linking verb or verb of condition. 2. Find the subject. 3. Look for something that comes after the verb that will rename the subject. It will be the predicate noun.

  5. Locating Predicate Nouns Example: The girl is a good friend. (First find the linking verb. It is “is.” Then find the subject. It is “girl.” Finally, look after the linking verb. Is there something to rename the man? Yes, it is “friend.” “Friend” is the predicate noun.) S LV PN The man is a good friend.

  6. Predicate Adjectives • To locate a predicate adjective: 1. Find a linking verb or verb of condition. 2. Locate the subject. 3. Look for a word that comes after the linking verb or verb of condition that describes the subject. That is your predicate adjective.

  7. Locating Predicate Adjectives • Example: • The man is angry. (The linking verb is “is.” The subject is “man.” After the verb is the word “angry.” It describes the man; therefore, it is the predicate adjective.) S LV PA The man is angry.
