  3. Facts • 1. Paul Gauguin was born June 7, 1848 in Paris, France. • 2. His full birth name was Eugene Henri Paul Gauguin. • 3. In 1849 his father’s politics forced the family into exile, they had to move to Peru. • 4. His father died on the journey to South America. • 5. At age 17 he joined the Merchant Navy. • 6. In 1873, he married a Dutch woman named Mette Gad. The couple eventually had five children. • 7. He died in May 8, 1803.

  8. Legacy The vogue of Gauguin’s work started soon after his death. In 2003, the Paul Gauguin Cultural Center opened in Atuonain the Marquesas Island. Part of his collection is displayed in the Pushkin Museum and the Hermitage. Gauguin has been sainted by Ecclesia GrosticaCatholica (Wikepedia).
