  4. What Do I Mean Compare Decimals? When we compare we use terms such as: • Less than < • Greater than > • Equal to =

  5. EX: • 23.456 23.546 • 2.35 2.25 • 0.005 0.05

  6. Ordering Decimals: 15, 14.95, 15.8, 15.01 • First, line up the decimal points 15.00 14.95 15.80 15.01 • Second, add zeroes if needed. • Finally, compare the decimals. Always start from the left!! • Answer:14.95, 15, 15.01, 15.8

  7. Equivalent Decimals • Decimals that name the same number are called equivalent decimals. • 0.60 and 0.6 • Are these the same???

  8. Examples: • Order these numbers from greatest to least • 35.06, 35.7, 35.5, 35.849 • Order these numbers from least to greatest • 0.018, 0.013, 0.28, 0.205, 0.035

Rounding Decimals Step 1: Underline decimal place we are rounding Step 2: Circle the number to the right of the underlined decimal place Step 3: If circled digit is greater than or equal to 5, then round the underlined number up (add one) Step 4: If circled digit is less than or equal to 4, leave the underlined number the same

  10. Try these: 1)Round 1.05 to the nearest tenth 2) Round 0.123 to the nearest tenth 3. Round 4.568 to the nearest whole number
