How to access eStudent URL of eStudent • http://www.polyu.edu.hk/student/; or • https://www38.polyu.edu.hk/eStudent/ (Direct link) Use Chrome / Internet Explorer 7 browsers Login by NetID & NetPassword. (Activate your NetID on the next day after the programme registration. For steps, please read Appendix 1: NetID Registration.)

Preparation for Subject Registration • Check the following information on 23 August 2014: • Your subject registration records (Study Information) • Your earliest commencing time for subject registration (Personal Checklist) • Searching for subject information (Subject Search) • To search CAR subjects for registration

  8. 3(i). Study Information (eStudent > My Profile > Study Information) • Select Academic Year/Semester e.g. 2014-15 Semester 1 2014-15 Semester 1 Prior approval by your Department is required for dropping of subjects pre-assigned/registered by your department 2014-15 Semester 1

Personal Checklist (eStudent > My Subject Registration > Personal Checklist) You can check • subject registration period • your assigned earliest commencing timefor performing subject registration • no system service from 08:00 – 08:59 on the last day of subject registration 2014-15 Semester 1

  10. 3(iii) Subject Search(eStudent > Information > Subject Search) Search CAR subjects’ information • Select ‘By Subject’ • Select ‘Category’ • Press ‘Search’ 1 2014-15 Semester 1 2 3

  11. 3(iii) Subject Search(eStudent > Information > Subject Search) • Subjects on offer will be shown. • Click the subject code to view details. 2014 - 15 Semester 1

  12. 3(iii) Subject Search(eStudent > Information > Subject Search) This part shows the basic information of the subject, e.g. category, duration, etc. You can view the subject synopsis by clicking the link. This part shows the requirement for taking the subjects, e.g. subject pre-requisite/co-requisite requirement or any subject/programme exclusion.

  13. 3(iii) Subject Search(eStudent > Information > Subject Search) This part shows the offering details, e.g. whether the subject is offered to your programme, vacancy, timetable info. • Checking the class timetable information

Subject Registration • To ensure a fair chance to all students in registration of subjects, students can confirm their selection ONCE, and changes could be done during Re-opening period for each round, or during the add/drop period Important Note: • Subject Registration will go on during rainstorm warning / typhoons / public holidays.

  17. 4. Subject Registration Search and Select Subject(s) block • Use this to select subject(s) and put in the basket (i.e My Subject Shopping Cart block) My Subject Shopping Cart block • Use this to confirm your selected subjects

  18. 4. Subject Registration ‘Search’ subject(s) : • Search subject by Basic Search (If you know the subject code)

  19. 4. Subject Registration • ‘Search’ subject(s) : • Search subject by Advanced Search (Choose by Programme and Subject Category)

  20. 4. Subject Registration ‘Select’ subject(s) : Select the subject group with vacancy and press ‘+’ button

  21. 4. Subject Registration • ‘Select’ subject(s) : • Select the component(s) and press ‘Add to Cart’button • (one component from each type by ticking the check box • e.g. LEC and SEM, Select one LEC and one from SEM)

  22. 4. Subject Registration ‘Select’ subject(s) : The selected subject will be displayed in the My Subject Shopping Cart block Repeat‘Search’ and ‘Select’ for other subjects. LEC001 SEM002

  23. 4. Subject Registration ‘Confirm’ subject(s) : • After selecting ALLsubjects, ‘Confirm’ them. Prior approval by your Department is required for dropping of subjects pre-assigned/registered by your department LEC001 SEM002

  24. 4. Subject Registration Successful Completion: • Wait for a confirmation page with the registered subjects & a reference number. • Double check your records via My Profile > Study Information • Check your personalized timetable via My Timetable > Class Timetable 7.5

Add/Drop Period Add/Drop Period • Procedures are the same as Subject Registration shown above. • If you add/drop subjects more than 4 times (i.e. add/drop count ≥ 5), your earliest commencing time to access ‘subject registration’ in the next semester will be postponed. (This arrangement is not applicable to the Summer Term Add/Drop Period and also the new students in their 1st semester.)

Common Errors in Subject Registration • Not yet reach your earliest commencing time for Subject Registration • You can only enter the subject registration page according to the earliest commencing time assigned to you. Your earliest commencing time has been shown in the message or you can check the details from your personal checklist.

Common Errors in Subject Registration • Cannot login the Subject Registration function, the webpage keeps showing ‘The function is not available...’ even though the earliest commencing time for Subject Registration is reached • Close your existing browser. Open the browser (i.e. Chrome or Internet Explorer) with eStudent website (www.polyu.edu.hk/student), input with your NetID and NetPassword. • DO NOT bookmark any individual webpage under eStudent. Please login eStudent properly via www.polyu.edu.hk/student or direct URL https://www38.polyu.edu.hk/eStudent.  

Common Errors in Subject Registration • Fail to fulfill the subject requirement for registration • You are not allowed to register on the subject if you have not fulfilled its pre-requisite/co-requisite/exclusion requirements. Please check the subject requirement listed in Subject Details or Subject Synopsis. • No vacancy for the subject group/component groups • You are not allowed to register on a subject with NO VACANCY. Please select other subject groups/subject components. • You can indicate your wish in taking the subject via Preferred Subject Indication function (Appendix 2).

  30. 6. Common Errors in Subject Registration • Study load in a semester • You are not allowed to register more than 21 credits in a semester. If you have need to do so, please approach your programme offering departments for approval. • Class timetable clashes between 2 Subjects • You are not allowed to register on the subject(s) if there is time-clashes. Please select other subject group/components for registration.

  34. Appendix 1: NetID Registration • Activate your NetID via myPolyU Portal at PolyU website (www.polyu.edu.hk). • Get ready your PolyU Student Identity Card and Programme Code of the programme you are registered on.

Appendix 2: What to do with subjects with no more vacancy (Preferred Subject Indication) Indicate your Preferred Subjects when there is no vacancy for the subject group • Department will contact you if study places of your preferred subject become available after the subject registration or add/drop periods. • Unlimited access to this function

Appendix 2: What to do with subjects with no more vacancy (Preferred Subject Indication) How to indicate your preferred subjects: • You should COMPLETE your subject registration process. • At the confirmation page, there is a hyperlink for entering the Preferred Subject Indication function. 7.5

Appendix 2: What to do with subjects with no more vacancy (Preferred Subject Indication) • Search and select subjects (similar to the subject registration). • You can select up to 5 choices with prioritization. • Press ‘Confirm’ to complete the process.
