Threat of noise pollution • Noise is a disturbance to the human environment that is escalating at such a high rate that it will become a major threat to the quality of human lives. • In the past thirty years, noise in all areas, especially in urban areas, have been increasing rapidly. • Too much noise can cause much damage to the environment.

  4. Causes of noise pollution -The major sources of noise are: road traffic, air traffic, rail traffic, industry and recreational activities. -Minor sources of noise can be, an office, a hairdryer in use, and indoor conversations.

  5. Loud music causes -Any kind of loud music can cause temporary and permanent hearing loss. -Items such as ipods can cause much damage to the ear. -Constant ‘pounding’ music and noise that goes on for long periods of time are common causes of deafness.

  6. How much db can a person take? • A person can take approximately up to 70 decibals before they are being disturbed which can lead to physical and mental problems. • Air Raid Sirens (140 decibels) • Airplane Taking Off and Thunder (120 decibels) • Garbage Truck (100 decibels) • City Traffic and Truck Driver (90 decibels) • Alarm Clock and Hairdryer (80 decibels)

  7. How it affects our health • Excessive noise levels can also lead to the increase of heart rate, blood pressure, and blood cholesterol. • It also has potential to harm the respiratory and digestive systems. • The loud noise going around affects people in many ways.

How to reduce noise pollution • New engine technologies • More efficient traffic management schemes. • • Increasing public awareness of noise by providing factual information • • Introducing noise zones along traffic routes and around airports • • Legal specification of maximum noise emission from products

  9. Summary • Over the years noise has increased dramatically. Much noise can cause serious injuries to the environment. It affects the health of humans in several ways. If people don’t start taking charge of what’s going around, many people can be affected.
