Biography Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra was born in Alcalá de Henares,1547. He was a soldier, novelist, poet and dramatist Spanish. His parents were Rodrigo Cervantes and Leonor Cortinas. He studied in Valladolid and Salamanca. In 1571 he fought in the Battle of Lepanto against the Turks. Wounded in the arm he was nicknamed "El Manco de Lepanto". When he came to Spain was a prisoner in Alger for five years. Later, he worked as a tax collector in Sevilla. In 1600 has started to live in Valladolid where he finished writing the first part of his masterpiece "Don Quijote de la Mancha," which was published in 1605. The book really liked, and in 1615 he published his second part. Living in Madrid, he fell seriously ill in 1616, died on April 22nd.
