  2. Responsibilities • Respond to incidents • Gunshots • Child Birth • Automobile accidents • Heart attacks • assess nature of patient's condition • determine if patient has pre-existing conditions • Provide emergency care

  3. EMT Basic • No shots or start intravenous lifelines • Restricted- oxygen, glucose, asthma inhalers, and epinephrine auto-injectors

  4. Basic Education • Emergency skills (cardiac and respiratory) • Use emergency equipment • Pass exam

  5. EMT Intermediate • Use IV • Use oxygen • administer glucose • Metered-Dose Inhalers (MDIs)

  6. Intermediate Education • 30-350 hours • Advance skills • Use of Airway device • Medications • Intravenous fluids

  7. Paramedic • give shots • advanced airway management • Trained on different medications

  8. Paramedic Education • anatomy and physiology • colleges and technical schools • One-two year degree • Clinical and field time • License and refreshers courses

  9. Advancements • Paramedics • Supervisors • Executive directors of emergency service • EMT’s and Paramedics • Instructors • Physician assistants

  10. Salary • Lowest: $9.08 • Middle: $11.13-$18.28 • Highest: $23.77 • bonus’s and overtime
