  5. Weather Warning! • National Weather Service is Predicting a Severe Winter Storm two days from now. Heavy snow with High Winds followed by days with Subzero temps.

  6. PRE-STORM ACTIONS • Marketing ? Communication Plan? • Facilities ? When will we close campus? • How do we clear roads? Parking lots? • Housing? Do we have adequate food? • Emergency Evacuation for sick or injured student?

  7. Day Two… • National Weather Service has upgraded the warning… • Record Snowfall… Possibly 24” • Winds approaching 35 – 40 MPH. 50 MPH Gusts possible. • Temps after snowfall will be Minus 8 to Minus 15 …

  8. Actions? • Marketing? • Facilities? • Housing? • Campus Police? Are we staying at campus? • Business Continuity/ Blackboard?

  9. D DAY... • National Weather Service was correct… • 21” of Heavy Snow… • Very High winds up to 45mph….

  10. Impact • Streets are impassable. I80-94, I65, 421, all county roads shutdown…. • Power Outages everywhere. Including PNW (Hammond). • Fallen trees in Hammond… Westville….

  11. HOUSING? • No power! No Heat! • Temp will drop in Housing 1 degree per hour in subzero temps… in 24 hours we will be at 45 degrees…

  12. Housing • Do we evacuate? Where do we go? • Do we have food for 800? • How do we move the students?

  13. Two Days of Subzero and then a Thaw.. • Move Students back to Housing? • How do we resume classes? • How do we communicate our plans?
