Understanding Hydrocodone: Uses, Risks, and Effects

Hydrocodone, known by street names such as Vikes, Hydro, and Vicodin, is an opioid used to treat moderate to severe pain. While effective, it also carries risks of long-term effects like tolerance, dependence, and addiction, particularly when co-formulated with acetaminophen, which can lead to liver toxicity. Short-term effects may include anxiety, constipation, and drowsiness, among others. Reports indicate significant non-medical use among high school students. While it's legal in the U.S., obtaining it online without a prescription is illegal.
