Library Research Guidelines for Students - April 24, 2013

Welcome to the library! Please find your own seat quietly and have two yellow sheets and one white sheet ready. Today, you'll start your research with guidelines from Mrs. Mackey and Mrs. Rexing. Remember to whisper, walk, and be considerate of others in this quiet space. Your tasks include locating sources, making source cards, and noting information for your papers. Be diligent, as you have today and tomorrow for library research, followed by two days of internet research. Outlining starts on Friday!

  1. Come in and sit down • You may choose your own seat if you remain silent. • Make sure you have two different yellow sheets and one white sheet.

  2. Plan for Today April 24, 2013

  3. The Library • Mrs. Mackey & Mrs. Rexing • Rules: • Whisper - only when you have to talk. • Walk, don’t run. • Be considerate. This is a quiet place where people can read, write and concentrate without distractions.

  4. To Do: • Find Sources that you can use. • Read and skim as needed. • If the source is one you can use, make a source card (yellow sheet). • Read carefully and make note cards for information you might use in your paper. • Be sure to reference the source on your note card and put quotes in quotation marks (“ “). • You will only have today and tomorrow to conduct library research in class. You will have two days for internet research with Ms. Elias. • We will begin outlining on Friday.
