Language functions • Describing the future — informing and predicting. • Expressing preferences. • Describing events in the indefinite and. • recent past. • Giving reasons. • Stating the duration of events. • Quantifying. • Expressing and requesting opinions and impressions. • Expressing intention and purpose . • Expressing obligation and necessity. • Expressing certainty and uncertainty. • Describing past actions over a period of time.

  3.
