  1. Welcome to Kindergarten!! Open House 2011

  2. Curriculum • Math –Envision and math workstations with small group support. • Science & Social Studies – follows HISD curriculum **integrated into other subjects • Language Arts –daily writing, work stations, guided reading, whole group, read alouds, high frequency words, and poetry • Homework – usually just unfinished class work.

  3. Assessments • Naglieri- a nonverbal ability test • Stanford 10 - covers all subjects given in December • Reading/Math – Beginning of year, middle of year and end of year assessments • TPRI – Early reading assessment • High Frequency Word Evaluation – once for each nine weeks • DRA – Developmental reading assessment

  4. Conduct • Fresh start every day • Averaged at the end of the week & sent in the conduct folder on Fridays. Please return folder on Mondays. • 7 tardies lowers your conduct & magnet students’ enrollment can be affected by low conduct • Conduct can affect field trip eligibility.

  5. Conduct Grading Scale Conduct grades can fluctuate throughout the day. • E-Excellent • S-Satisfactory • P-Needs Improvement • U-Unsatisfactory • Severe misconduct will not be tolerated and will result in immediate referral to the office.

  6. Fine Arts & P.E. • Monday – P.E. • Tuesday – Music • Wednesday –P.E. • Thursday – Music • Friday – Art *Wear tennis shoes on P.E. days & a bring water bottle with your child’s name on it.

  7. Parties • Two class parties – Volunteers needed for Winter and End of the Year parties. • Birthdays – You may send treats in the morning with your child. Treats will be served at lunch time in the cafeteria. You may also join them for lunch and pass treats out the last 10 minutes of lunch. Please send enough treats for the whole class. (Lunch is from 10:34-11:04.)

  8. Money • Please send correct change. • Place all money in envelope with student’s name and purpose for money. • Lunch money should be put on a lunch card. You can pay online with a credit card or pay cash in the cafeteria.

  9. Communication • Email is the best way to contact me. • Please email all questions about Fine Arts or P.E. to those staff members. All email addresses can be found on the Lovett Website. • Check my Website for information as well (also found on the Lovett Website).

  10. Folders • Red Homework Folder-sent home everyday with a “Take Home” side and a “Homework” side. Please empty folder and return it with your child everyday. • Wednesday Folder-sent home with school wide information, return on Thursday. • Blue Conduct Folder-sent home on Friday with weekly conduct grade. Please sign and return on Monday.

  11. Absences • Please send a note within 3 days to the classroom teacher excusing the absence.

  12. Rest/Snack Time • Please send a healthy snack everyday. Our kinders eat lunch very early in the day and need a substantial snack. • Rest time is twenty minutes.

  13. Parent Volunteers • Please register for V.I.P.S. in the front office. • Please sign up for classroom volunteers positions.

  14. Backpacks • Students need to come to school with a backpack containing only school related items. • Make sure backpack is large enough to hold standard sized folders, lunch box and a change of clothes. • Please do not send toys or other objects of distraction.

  15. Bell Schedule • Please send your child to school on time. • 1st bell rings at 7:50 am. If your child arrives before 7:50 am, he/she needs to wait in the multipurpose room . • 2nd bell rings at 7:55 am. • 3rd bell (tardy bell) rings at 8:00 am. • Please pick up your child on time. Students will be waiting outside in the afternoon heat.
