The Five SensesKindergarten Learning Objective: Students will be able to name the five senses and the part of the body used Standards: ELA: R1.17- Indentify and sort common words in basic categories • ELA: R2.5-Ask and answer questions about essential elements of a text • ELS: LS1.2- Share information and ideas, speaking audibly in complete, coherent sentences • ELA: W1.1-Write about experiences, stories, people, objects or events. • ELD: LS8 • B- Answer simple questions in one or two words • EINT- Ask and answer questions using phrases and simple sentences • INT- Ask and answer instructional questions using simple sentences • EADV- Ask and answer instructional questions with more extensive supporting elements • ELD: LS7- • I- Participate in conversations on familiar topics • EADV- Participate in and initiate conversations on unfamiliar topics • ELD: R7 • B-Demonstrate comprehension of simple vocabulary with an appropriate action • ELD: R20 • B- Respond orally to stories read aloud using physical actions and nonverbal communication • I- Use expanded vocabulary and descriptive words in oral and written responses to simple text

  3. Lesson Building on Prior Knowledge Ask students what part of our body helps us to smell, taste, hear, see and feel? Mouth Nose Eyes Fingers Ears

  4. Introduction Students use their senses as you peel an orange. Pass the peel around and give students a small piece of orange to taste. Ask them: What do you See? Hear? Smell? Feel? Taste?

  6. Story, Practice & Apply Read Story: My Five Senses in English and Spanish MisCincosSentidos Push to hear the story. Make a chart with English words to review story. Students give examples of how senses are used in the story.

  7. Independent Activity Students use new information to create an art project with the five senses. Assessment Students will complete worksheet by filling in the missing words.
