English – 4 years • Math – Algebra 1 and Geometry • Science – Life and Physical Science • History – Health/Geography, World History, US History, Government/Economics • Foreign Language/Visual & Performing Arts – 2 years • PE – 4 years To Graduate: 230 credits, course requirements & CAHSEE CUSD versus 4 Year College Admissions Requirements Graduation Requirements

  4. University of California (UC) – 4 Year • California State University (CSU) - 4 Year • Private – 4 Year • Community College – 2 Year • Technical/Vocational - Varies College systems

  5. 109 college campuses, serving 2.5 million students throughout California http://www.cccco.edu/ • Requirements: High school diploma, GED, or 18 years old • Programs include: • Associate degrees (2-3 years of full time study) • Certificate programs (arts, sciences, technical, health, business, electronics, computer science, agriculture, police and fire science, food science, and building and landscaping trades) • Transfer programs (to 4 year colleges) • Enrichment classes Community colleges

PSAT – fall of 11th grade • SAT Reasoning and/or ACT – spring of 11th grade and fall of 12th grade • SAT Subject (for specific majors) *** See your counselor for recommendations December is the last testing date that 4 year colleges will accept SAT/ACT scores for seniors • CAHSEE – February 5th and 6th tests

  8. What are the differences between the two? SAT ACT • The SAT measures general verbal and math reasoning. • Emphasis is placed on vocabulary and problem solving. • Test: Math (up to Alg. 2), Reading, Writing, Grammar • Preparing : The SAT can be tricky and requires you to utilize analytical thinking and logic. It’s “coachable” as you can learn to use reasoning to solve the problems. • Answering Questions: You lose points for incorrect answers, so don’t guess blindly • Length of Exam: 3 hours 45 minutes • Scoring: 2400 is perfect--1500 is the national average • Sending Scores: Your entire score history will be sent automatically • The ACT measures achievement related to high school curricula. • Emphasis is placed on well-rounded students with a good command of all subject areas. • Tests: Math (up to Trig.), Reading, Writing, Science • Preparing: The ACT is similar to your high school exams, but you need to know the material. The more you practice the questions, the better you’ll score. • Answering Question: There is no penalty for a wrong answer, so don’t leave any blank. • Length of Exam: 3 hours 25 minutes, including the optional writing test • Scoring: 36 is perfect 21 is national average • Sending Scores: You decide which score is sent

  10. Center for Advanced Research and Technology (CART): Half day, career focus labs with integrated curriculum that includes projects, community involvement, and technology. Applications available in January. CART Showcase: January 17th , 6-8pm Regional Occupational Program (ROP): 2 period per day, career focused classes that provide opportunity to explore specific careers Enroll during spring registration CART & ROP Presentations in PE classes: January 29th CART and ROP
