  7. The indicator old-age dependency ratio is defined as the number of persons aged 65 and over expressed as a percentage of the number of persons aged between 15 and 64. LABOUR FORCE POTENTIAL AND ITS REALIZATION: CASE OF LATVIA

  8. World population is aging. The population projections for the period 1008-2060 come from a report issued by Eurostat, the official Statistical Office of the European Communities shows that EU27 will become older thorought the projection period due in particularly persistently low fertility and an increasing number of survivors to higher ages.   9. This aging process would occur in all Member States. The aging of the population has also affected Latvia – there is a decrease of the labour force potential versus the total size of the potential. LABOUR FORCE POTENTIAL AND ITS REALIZATION: CASE OF LATVIA

  10. Analysis of the survey proves that in 2060 old-age dependency ratio in Latvia would be way above the average EU levels, i.e.for one employed person in the age group from 15-64 years.   12. The analysis show that in 2051 in Latvia 25% of the population will be younger than 25 years, in 2007 respective figure is 22 years – increase by 3 years. Gross years of working life or gross working life expectancy in the begining of the age (GWLE) serves as a measure of the aggregate level of age-specific economic activity rates and therefore is independent from the population’s age structure.   33. Conclusions and suggestion To decrease the death rates for the labour in the economically active age, especially for the man in the age 40-60 years. Calculation of the Working life tables for the population in Latvia, in order to evaluate the losses of labour force potential due to the illnesses would prove complete and temporarily losses in the working potential To increase the maximally possible work activities for retired population and rehabilitated gandicaped population LABOUR FORCE POTENTIAL AND ITS REALIZATION: CASE OF LATVIA
