  2. PERFORMING ARTS (DANCE) • This Dance GCSE course will provide students with the opportunity to develop an understanding and appreciation of a range of dance styles. • This will be mainly contemporary/modern dance – not related to popular TV/video dance. • Through their performance pupils will develop life-skills and attributes, including decision making, critical and creative thinking, aesthetic sensitivity and the ability to co-operate with others. GCSE DANCE

  3. How is the course assessed? Students will be assessed through: • Unit 1:A one hour written paper (20% of total marks). Questions will relate to dance content covered in the course and comparisons of professional set studies and dance works. This paper will be externally marked • Unit 2:A practical examination (20% of the total marks). Pupils will perform a set study, a solo dance, which will be of approximately 60 to 90 secondslong and will be assessed by an external examiner. GCSE DANCE

  4. How is the course assessed? • Unit 3: Pupils will be required to perform in one group dance lasting about 3 minutes, which will be assessed by their teacher and moderated by an external examiner. (20% of total marks). • Unit 4: Pupils must choreograph two dances. This must be a solo lasting 60 to 90 secondsand makes up 15% of total marks) and a group dance of between 2-3 minutes. (25% of total mark). Both dances will be externally moderated. • Students must produce a brief statement that describes the dance idea and a description of the movement for their group choreography and share this with the examiner. 5. More Information It is essential that pupils opting for this subject attend lessons regularly and always bring appropriate kit, as this subject is 80% practical based. Students must also feel confident in performing in front of their peers and external moderators, alone and as part of a group. A great deal of time will be spent learning about professional dance works. This may involve visiting theatres to watch professional performances. GCSE DANCE
