  2. Before we begin… • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COMING  • BY YOU SHOWING UP, YOU ARE TELLING YOUR CHILD: “I CARE ABOUT YOUR SUCCESS AND I WANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO GO THROUGH THIS YEAR.”

WHAT IS DP? • Diploma Programme • Rigorous college preparatory program with a global focus • “Develop physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically” • Divided into Higher Level and Standard Level • Students will engage in 3 HL courses, 3 SL courses, Theory of Knowledge, Creativity Action and Service Project, and Extended Essay

How hard is it? • DP Students will engage in 7 college – level courses, most of them 2 years long • By the end of their senior year, diploma students will take between 15-20 non multiple choice college level exams that are shipped around the world and graded by an IB moderator in a different country. • By the end of their senior year, full diploma students will have submitted 4 college level essays that are shipped around the world and graded by an IB moderator in a different country.

  5. How hard is it? • During the two years as a DP student, they will complete 6 college level writing or audio assessments, one in each subject, that may contain multiple parts. These assessments are approximately 10 pages each at length. • By the end of their senior year, full diploma candidates will be required to complete an 18 month long Community Service Project. • These requirements are, of course, in addition to everyday classroom assignments and homework given by their instructors!

HOW DOES AP DIFFER? • IB • Minimum of 2-3 tests per subject taken • Free-Response/Written Exam style • Exam questions focus on application • Holistic/Cross Curricular Model • Community Service included • IB Diploma awarded additional university credit • AP • 1 test per subject taken • Overwhelmingly multiple choice format • “Buffet” style • Concept/Factoid base

What is the payoff? • Here are just a few examples: • UC Davis and UC System rewards 8 units for each HL exam 5 or higher • UC Davis and UC System rewards 30 units for IB Diploma score of 30 or higher • UC Berkeley rewards 5.3 semester units per HL exam 5 or higher • UC Berkeley rewards 20 semester units for IB Diploma

  8. What is the payoff? • University of the Pacific • Combines actual grades received from IB courses taken @ FHS with IB Exam scores. Accept the higher combination. • Up to 7 courses for credit • October 11th/ November 15th Discover the Pacific Experience • CIP (1st Gen.), Regent, Presidents • POWELL Scholarship – $35,000/yr • 3.7 minimum GPA • Academic Leadership/Outreachin Community

What is the payoff? • Sac State and CSU system accepts all IB HL scores 4 or higher • Delta works happily as a “middle man” to Universities and strives to propel students to eventually transfer to 4 – year institutions. They offer elective credit and course credit for HL IB Exam scores of 4 and above. In some rare cases, they may accept SL scores • Franklin IB Alumni have received acceptance letters from Yale, Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, Stanford, Northwestern, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton, UCLA, UC Berkeley, to name a very few

HOW MUCH AM I PAYING? • Registration Fees for the current school year is $160 • Each exams are $110 each • Every DP student takes 6 exams • Lots of money! • Free and Reduced Lunch forms that qualify will only need to pay $10 per exam! • FUNDRAISING OPPORTUNITIES! • 60% goes directly towards individual IB Fees

  14. HOW MUCH AM I PAYING? • Student Registration Form • Student Fundraiser Participation Form • FEES and FORMS Due October 3rd. Fee penalty will be applied after November 15th. • Families owing more than $100 and wish to take advantage of the Fundraiser system, the Fundraiser Participation Form must be turned in along with the Student Registration Form by the due date. • Payment Plans are also available • We want to assist you in every way we can!

How can I help my child? • Being in the MYP was a great start! • No sweat if you didn’t start at 6th grade • Every DP parent is required to support their student by donating a minimum of 5 hours of your time or a minimum of $30  • Time is DEFINITELY preferred. We cannot function as a successful program without your presence at our events.

  16. How can I help my child? • If time is not a reasonable request for your family’s schedule, we ask that you contribute your support for your child financially to the I.B. Boosters • 100% of the I.B. Booster funds goes towards enrichment and additional resources for your IB student. • ALL donations are tax deductible. Tax ID can be provided.

  17. HOW CAN YOU HELP? • 5 Booster Meetings Minimum (Out of 9) • Chaperones for Events: Awake-a-thon, Clash of the Classes, etc. • 2 mornings as IB Exam Invigilators in May 2015 • Drivers for events: Senior Retreat, Field Trips, etc. • IB Dinner Dance Planning and other event coordination

  18. HOW CAN YOU HELP? Upcoming Events: • Clash of the Classes: September 12th 7:30 – 2:00 • Family IB BBQ September 12th 4:00 – 6:00 • Senior Retreat: September 19th – 21st • Awake – a – thon @ Stockton Teen Center November 7th 9:00 – 8:00
