  3. Graduating Diplomas • All students are following courses that lead to International Baccalaureate Exams • Either Full IB Diploma • OrIB Certificate exams that lead to the ISM Diploma

  4. IB Diploma subjects • Language A1 • Second language: A1 or A2 or B • Individuals & Societies • Experimental Sciences • Mathematics • The Arts or another subject from groups 2, 3 or 4

  5. Why choose the ISM Diploma? • Poor results in grade 11 • Poor results during grades 12-13 • Failing resit exams in September grade 13 • No Language A1 • Full IB Diploma not needed for chosen university course

  6. The ISM Diploma • Five or Six Subjects (any level) • Successful Completion of CAS programme • No Extended Essay or ToK • Students receive a ‘Certificate’ from the IB indicating results obtained in individual subjects

  7. The IB Diploma • SIX Subjects • 3 Higher • 3 Standard • EE • TOK • CAS

Passing the IB Diploma • 6 subjects, each marked out of 7 • max 42 points • Extended Essay & ToK • max 3 bonus points • Require extensive reading and research • Completing the CAS programme • Guideline - 150 hours • 10 x plans, reflections and reports submitted on Studywiz • Termly reflective meetings with form tutor • Pass mark is 24 but there are failing criteria…

The IB diploma will be awarded to a candidate whose total score is 24, 25, 26 or 27 points, if: • At least a grade D is attained in both EE and ToK • There is no grade 1 in any subject. • There is no grade 2 at higher level. • There is no more than one grade 2 at standard level. • Overall, there are no more than three grades 3 or below. • At least 12 points have been gained on higher level subjects. • All CAS requirements have been completed. • Not been found guilty of malpractice. • The IB diploma will be awarded to a candidate whose total score is 28 points or above, if: • At least a grade D is attained in either EE or ToK • There is no grade 1 in any subject. • There is no more than one grade 2 at higher level. • There are no more than two grades 2 at standard level. • Overall, there are no more than three grades 3 or below. • At least 11 points have been gained on higher level subjects. • All CAS requirements have been completed. • Not been found guilty of malpractice.

  15. Beginning the IB Diploma • September to December is a key time. • Students should be studying every evening – 2 hours minimum. But the most important sign is independent study done willingly. • During the 2 year course we hope that students develop the characteristics defined in the IB Leaner Profile...

Grade 12 • October internal interim is first impressions of teachers • December interim is a good indicator of progress. • End of year exams are a good indicator of problems and allow the student to test study and revision habits. • Poor performance leads to resit exams in September. • Poor performance in resit exams can lead to being taken off the IB Diploma or repeating grade 12

  18. Grade 13 • Extended Essay • Internal Assessments • Registration for IB Diploma or Certificates • Mock exams after Christmas Holiday • Study leave • Results are published early July on internet

Study advice and deadlines • Apart from preparing for the final written exam, courses have written coursework components, practicals and orals. • Deadlines are put in place to help students plan their time. If students fall behind with assignments, practicals etc then life will get more and more difficult. • IB Diploma Programme Handbook: • offers advice on study skills • identifies deadlines
