  3. On May 7, 1999 Acer released a study on students involved in part-time work. Facts • 11th and 12th graders were less likely to be unemployed at the age of 19 • Nearly 80% of high school students worked at sometime during school • Up to one-third of 17 year-old students were employed during the school year • They spent an average of nine hours per week in their jobs

Most students said they worked to gain independence • They enjoyed the work • They believed part-time work would help them obtain employment later in life • Students who were middle and lower achievers at school often highlighted the importance of a part-time job for students who may not be as well served by the school system Students Thoughts
