  2. How many bones does the skeletal system have ? • The skeletal system has approximately 206 bones!

  3. What is the soft tissue of bones called? • marrow

  4. Explain what cartilage is. • cartilage is a flexible tissue

  5. How do doctors view damaged bones ? • By an x-ray

  6. What is bones made of ?` • Most bones start out as a soft, flexible tissue called cartilage. When you were born, you had a little true bone. But as you grew, the cartilage was replaced by the bone.

  8. What are joints ? • A joint is the location at which two bones make contact.

  9. How do bones grow ? • Bones grow in length at the epiphyseal plate

  10. What are the 4 functions of bones/Skeletal System? • Generalized vertebra • Curves • Discs, and • Ligaments

  12. How or why is bones considered a living organ ? • Bone is composed of connective tissue and minerals that are deposited by living cells called osteoblasts.
