  2. Brainstorming • Think for a minute about a time when you heard a really great verbal presentation. Maybe it was a guest speaker at the university, or it was a peer in class. Take a minute to jot down what made that presentation strong. • Think about visuals they used, their pacing, use of humor, engagement with the audience, length of the presentation, and so forth. • Then, think about a really bad presentation. What happened that stood out to you as ineffective? Jot down a few notes.

  3. Overview How to prepare for your oral presentation

  4. Steps • Determine purpose & audience • What’s the purpose of the OPR? • How could determining purpose & audience help you shape your presentation? • Gather Information • Organize information, keeping the following in mind: • Audiences remember intros and closings

  5. Steps Come up with a design conception for your visual component (avoid templates) Find relevant images THEN, you can start the powerpoint/prezi

  6. Content WHAT are you going to say?

What to include • Overview of presentation • Present the research you did and how this informed your deliverable. • You may want to talk about sample documents you analyzed and how you decided to make yours different. You may want to talk about research you did or contact you had with the client that informed your decisions. You may want to talk about what you did that was different than the proposal to stand apart. You may discuss design readings you found. • Describe how your deliverable will meet the client’s needs • Outline your progress—What have you done? What do you still need to do? • Show the class your deliverable and ASK for feedback. Force the class to engage with you!
