What is a planet?(as of Aug. 2006) • The IAU said that the definition for a planet is now officially known as "a celestial body that • (a) is in orbit around a star • (b) has sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a (nearly round) shape and • (c) has cleared the neighborhood around its orbit." (not in a swarm of rocks)
