TURMOIL • Formal Definition: a state of great commotion, confusion, or disturbance. • Example: Since 9/11, the stock market has been in a state of turmoil.
CLUTCHED • Formal Definition: to grip or hold tightly or firmly. • Example: After he woke up from a nightmare, the young child clutched his teddy bear.
WHIMPERED • Formal Definition: to cry with low, plaintive, broken sounds. • Example: The dog whimpered because he wanted to be let out of the cage.
