  6. Provide instructions and expectations prior to the course (e.g. Announcements in Blackboard). • Collect agenda items through discussion boards or other tools ahead of time.

  7. Start with personal greeting to each student as they sign on with two-way communication (mic and chat). • Keep reminding students to turn on an off their mics rather than chatting.

  8. The “RIGHT” Leading Questions… • Provide an introductory question • Push/pull responses from all participants.  • Open & closed questions as needed to manage engagement! • Use the comments to steer or modify my agenda.

  9. Managing Engagement • Provide only short bursts of content information in lecture format. • Ask questions - to assess understanding and promote engagement. • Constantly remind student to turn on/off the mic when responding to a questions. • Call upon students to keep organized. • Repeat student questions/comments as needed. • Be sure to read and respond to chat responses. • Use writeboard, polling, response activities, etc. • Share your screen!
