  3. Step 1 - Review Why are you reading this? Reading how to read critically? Things may not be as they seem/

  4. Step 2 - Review • Dead relatives in museums • Ordinary law versus Indian laws • Indian Crania Study • Non-combatant situations • Mangas Coloradas • Pseudo-scientific • Desecration • Have shovel will travel • Private collections • Medical benefits • Changing tide • Rebury

  5. Step 3 - Map Last Rites for Indian Dead Strong Ethos Intro Dead Relatives on display Asking for return of remains Indian Crania Study? Differences in law Legal Differences Pseudo-scientific?? And so on… Indian Crania Study

  6. Step 4 - Summarize Harjo argues that the remains of Native Americans that currently in museums, universities, and private collections should be returned to their tribes for proper burial. ….

  7. Step 5 – Analyze/Evaluate While I ultimately agree with Harjo’s argument, her excessive use of pathos weakens the overall argument. Of particular concern is her retelling of the Mangas Coloradas capture and beheading….

  8. Step 6 - Application I have been to several museums and have probably seen the remains of Native Americans and never gave it a thought. ….
