  2. Recent Developments • Frankfurt build underway • Frankfurt and Amsterdam in service end Q2 • Significant traffic growth • London 10Gb/s upgrade ordered • Now 140 customers • Public peering interconnect with LoNAP proving popular

  3. London Redbus Interhouse:3 sites Telehouse: 2 sites Global Switch: 1 site TeleCity: 1 site Amsterdam NIKHEF: March 04 2 more sites later in 04 Hamburg Telehouse Frankfurt: Redbus Interhouse:Feb 04 IX Europe: Feb 04 1 more site:to be confirmed Locations Connections within, not between, each metro area

  4. Frankfurt Deployment • 2 Foundry BigIron 8000s (JetCore silicon) per site • 802.1w spanning tree for rapid convergence • Native 1Gb/s dark fibre between sites • Upgrades to 10Gb/s and/or DWDM possible as traffic grows

  5. London Traffic Growth • Ethernet switched traffic peaking at nearly 2Gb/s • Another 2.5-3Gb/s estimated DWDM private-interconnect traffic • Traffic at least doubling every 4 months

  6. London 10Gb/s Upgrade • Upgrading existing Extreme Alpine and Black Diamond switches to BD 6808 MSM-3 10Gb/s configuration • Initial deployment 3 sites: • Telehouse North & East • Redbus Harbour Exchange • Will use new triangle of dedicated dark fibre: • 10Gb/s DWDM is notcost-justified • Existing DWDM will support other sites and customer private interconnects • Considering additional router-only public peering VLAN

  7. LoNAP Interconnect • See: • http://www.xchangepoint.net/ourpartners/LoNAP-XP-iconnect.html • Shared public interconnect: • Introduced at time of last RIPE meeting • 195.47.243/24, VLAN 550 • About 30Mb/s traffic • 34 XPE customers, 7 LoNAP members • Point-to-point private VLANs: • About 6Mb/s traffic • 12 XPE customers, 8 LoNAP members, 28 VLANs • Not much growth since public interconnect introduced • Have created some simple web pages to document participation • We would like to do similar agreements in other cities
