RIPE 45 EIX WG Update Keith Mitchell Gian Walker 14th May 2003
Recent Developments • First German site in Hamburg now in service • Operational in 7 sites in London • Now 95 customers • New AUP and SLA • LoNAP interconnect working smoothly • European expansion funding imminent
London Locations • Redbus Interhouse: • Harbour Exchange • Memaco House • Sovereign House • Telehouse: • North • East • Global Switch: • East India • TeleCity: • Harbour Exchange
Hamburg • Result of partnership arrangement with Telehouse Hamburg • At facility in Langenhorner Chaussee near airport • Live since March • Well-attended launch event on 3rd April • Currently 2 customers connected • Discussions to interconnect with other operators in Wendenstrasse facilities in advanced stage
Current Traffic - http://traffic.xchangepoint.net • Switched traffic: • public & private • peering & transit • Now peaking 500Mb/s • Inter-site DWDM private interconnect traffic estimated at 2.2Gb/s • Within London • Mixture of Gigabit Ethernet and SDH STM-1/4/16 • DWDM between 4 original sites • Adding CWDM for additional 3 sites
LoNAP Interconnect • See http://www.xchangepoint.net/info/Xchange-LoNAP.pptfor background • Has been running smoothly for around 5 months now • 10 XchangePoint customers and 6 LoNAP members participating - total 24 VLANs • About 6Mb/s traffic through interconnect • Ready for next phase, which will be shared public peering VLAN in neutral /24 • Have written up Cisco native VLAN=1 problem and submitted document to vendor
New SLA and AUP (v3.5) • See http://www.xchangepoint.net/custinfo/{SLA,AUP}.html • Changes mainly to safely address major demand for customers to connect switches rather than routers • Also addresses interconnect with/via 3rd-party layer-2 network operators • Approach is to try and be as flexible as possible, but not allow anything risky • e.g. some things not prohibited but not upheld in SLA either • Makes extensive use of tagged VLANs • Also enforcing MAC address filtering per port • still need further feature support from switch vendors • Seems to be working - no major accidents to date
