Antoni Gaudí i Cornet, s-a născut la 25 iunie1852 la Reus, Catalonia, dar şi-a realizat studiile şi munca sa la Barcelona în Catalonia. • Ca tânăr arhitect, a fost inspirat de Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, ajungând să creeze modele gotice, remarcându-se prin originalitatea şi fantezia sa. • Afost susţinut de către Eusebi Güell, industriaş bogat, pentru care a creat un palat în 1889 (Palau Güell) care va fi înscris mai târziu în patrimoniul mondial al UNESCO , împreună cu alte opere ale sale ca şi Casa Milà (construită în 1907) sau Parcul Güell (amenajat între 1900 şi 1914). • În 1883 a început construcţia unei catedrale dedicată Sfintei Familii, Sagrada Família, finanţată din fonduri publice. El a continuat să lucreze până la moartea sa pe 10 iunie1926, când a fost călcat de un tramvai. Acest monumet mai este şi astăzi în lucru, datorită donaţiilor din fonduri publice.
