  1. KNOW HOW TO MIGRATE FROM EXCHANGE TO LOTUS NOTES!!! Email has always been the most vital mode of communication from the beginning itself. Over the few decades, email has evolved into one of the most cost-effective and comprehensive modes of communication. Increasing business and entrepreneurship required better and full-featured professional email clients .In order to fulfill the different requirements of the different customer , various email clients became available within a short period of time. Any messaging client-server system with excellent and powerful functions of storing personal information is preferable by organizations. All the email clients have different file formats. There are many situations when users are prompted to perform migration from one email client to other email clients. Some of the scenarios are: Two firms that work on different e-mail client servers are merged. When the user switches his job and the new company uses another email client. It delivers scalable, security-rich programs at very low cost, helping you to enhance productivity, accelerate your operations and increase decision-making. It also provides business functionalities such as maintaining, data, calendar, file sharing, contacts, directories and distant messaging. IBM Notes provides access to databases and applications saved on IBM Domino server. Domino server is supported on all the major and popular operating systems including OS X ,Window, and Linux. IBM Notes saves all its files in NSF format. Exchange Server: 'Microsoft Exchange Server' a product of Microsoft is a collaborative software which acts as a mail server, calendaring software and contact manager. This mail server is only supported by windows operating system. Advantages of IBM Domino Server over Exchange Server Though Microsoft Exchange Server is the most popular of all messaging and collaborations platforms but IBM Domino has its own advantages.

  3. Note: Microsoft Exchange Server is only designed for Windows platform but IBM Domino shows compatibility with multiple Operating System including Windows , Solaris, OS X, AIX, and Linux. IBM Notes has minimum operational cost. It also has an excellent mail tracking and security features as compared to Exchange Server and MS Outlook. IBM domino also supports software and hardware virtualization and offers some other complementary products along with it. File Formats of Exchange Server and Lotus Notes : IBM Notes data are saved Notes Storage Facility (NSF) Format. Exchange Server’s data is saved in Exchange Database (EDB) format and Streaming Database (STM) format. While exporting mailbox files from Exchange server, you ought to change its file format from EDB to NSF. Ways to convert Exchange EDB to IBM Notes :- Domino Upgrade Service , : Via this program , users can transform all the active directory and Exchange information to IBM Notes. This program is already installed within Domino Administrator client. Steps to convert EDB files to NSF using Domino upgrade service : Step 1> First Enable Microsoft Exchange Migration tool in IBM Notes.

  4. If you are an authorized user then Log into Domino Administrator client with all the credentials like Domino Admin ID and password. Step 2> Then migrate users and their mailbox stores

  5. Step 3 > Also convert the addresses of migrated Exchange users. Step 4 >Then export group documents, public folders, shared mailbox and shared data to Domino. Notes Upgrade System: Through this feature, you can import mailbox data from Exchange Server to IBM Notes by using nupgrade.exe. It allows users to transform their personal mailbox data from Exchange Server to IBM Notes. Nupgrade works only at the client level and servers are not accessed at all. For migration purpose you should have ‘Exchange Migration’ and ‘Outlook Express Migration’ tools enabled in the Notes client. Steps to convert EDB files to NSF using notes upgrade service:

  6. Step 1> Select the nupgrade.exe file and then double-click it on run nUpgrade.exe step 2> Then you can see Notes Upgrade Services window on your system and click next to start the upgrade process.

  7. Step 3>Then you need to select Microsoft Exchange profile name from the list. Then go to the next to continue further process Step 4> After that Select the method you want to convert your personal information. You can either go for Express (recommended) or Custom. Then Click Next to continue Exchange to Notes conversion process.

  8. Step 5> Right after you click next, an nupgrade will begin the migration process. It may take some time in completing the process. Once the process is successfully completed, all the emails will be stored in PersonalFolder.nsf, and the contacts will be stored in personal address book (Names.nsf). Though these manual procedures are not very robust approach. As they don't work with corrupted and damaged EDB files. Using manual approach can also be challenging for a non-technical user. So in order to avoid such problems , you can go for third party professional tool which provides you much better results in very short time without causing any damages or changes to the original data. Usually, such professional tools are available with the trial version for free evaluation. You should always go for the free evaluation of the tool before purchasing its licensed version.
