  3. 1. COMMAND We must add the word TO in indirect sentence Example : • Direct : The doctor asked me,” stay in bed for a few days Indirect : The doctor asked me to stay in bed for a few days • Direct : He said “ don’t open the door Indirect : He said not to open the door

  4. 2. STATEMENT There are some changes from Direct into Indirect namely : • Auxiliaries‘ Direct Indirect can Could May Might Must/have to Had to Is/am/are was/were Should should was/were had been

Contoh : • Direct : Ukas said,” I can speak English Indirect : Ukas said that he could speak English • Direct : Hendra said,” I am married Indirect : Hendra said that he was married • Direct : the man said,” I went to bali last year Indirect : the man said that he had gone to Bali the previous year

  8. Note : reported speech in present tense, no changes in tenses Contoh • Direct : Tom says,” I study English everyday Indirect : Tom says that he studies English everyday 2. John says : I am eating bread now John says that he is eating bread now

  9. 3. QUESTION We use IF/WHETHER (APAKAH) if the question in the form of YES & NO Contoh : • Direct : The man asked me,’ can you speak English ? Indirect : The man asked me IF/WHETHER I could speak English 2. Direct : He asked me,” do you live near here Indirect : He asked me IF/WHETHER I lived near there 3. Direct : He asked me,” where do you live? Indirect : He asked me where I lived
