  14. They have no leaves or blossoms.

  16. 16

  17. Here is a tree in the summer, and we know that all its leaves will fall off.

  18. How does the tree stay alive during the winter months?

  19. 19

  20. 20

  21. The Bible talks a lot about roots: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith (Colossians 2:7). Rooted and grounded in love (Ephesians 3:17). I am the root and the offspring of David (Revelation 22:16). The love of money is the root of all evil (1 Timothy 6:10). 23

  22. It is through His power that summer and winter . . . follow each other in their regular succession. It is by His word that vegetation flourishes, that leaves appear, and the flowers bloom. (The Faith I Live By, p. 59)

  23. In summer, as we look upon the trees of the distant forest, all clothed with a beautiful mantle of green, we may not be able to distinguish between the evergreens and the other trees. But as winter approaches, and the frost king encloses them in his icy embrace, stripping the other trees of their beautiful foliage, the evergreens are readily discerned.

  24. 26

  25. Thus it will be with all who are walking in humility . . . While those who are self-confident, and trust in their own perfection of character, lose their false robe of righteousness when subjected to the storms of trial, the truly righteous, who sincerely love and fear God, wear the robe of Christ’s righteousness in prosperity and adversity alike. (The Faith I Live By, p. 119)

  26. This earth is the place of preparation for heaven. The time spent here is the Christian’s winter. Here the chilly winds of affliction blow upon us, and the waves of trouble roll against us. (Ms 28, 1886; quoted in 7BC 988)

  27. Every day we need to have strong roots, even in winter, and we need to stay rooted and grounded with Jesus, even though it looks like Satan and his followers can do a lot of things we cannot do.
